To Whom It May Concern
Dear …………..
FUND RAISING INITIATIVE BY THE DISTRICT PLAYERS COMMITTEE (DPC) FOR BORDER TEAMS PARTICIPATING IN THE 2014 INTER-DISTRICTS
One of the main functions of the DPC (previously known as the Border Players Association) is to develop fund raising initiatives which will contribute towards the cost of Border players (men’s and ladies), selected to play in the Inter-Districts tournaments each year. These tournaments are held at various venues throughout the country, on a rotational basis.
Unfortunately, the burden of increased personal contributions by each player is a reality and this escalates each year. Generally, Border Bowls are able to pay for the accommodation costs of the various teams only, which means that each of the player’s has to pay for transport, meals, green fees and other tournament costs, etc. These costs can easily accumulate up to R5 000 per player, depending on where the particular tournament is being held, with transport costs obviously being a major contributing factor.
The cost to the players has become prohibitive and can mean in some cases, that players who have been selected may not be able to attend the tournament, because of affordability criteria.
The DPC are attempting to alleviate this problem and have set a target of trying to raise R48 000 before end-February 2014, through various initiatives including the one mentioned below. 48 players represent Border each year, at the Inter-Districts tournaments.
The purpose of this letter is to appeal to you to participate in a monthly draw initiative, which will function as follows:-
- Each participant to contribute R50 per month to a designated person who will contact you personally regarding this initiative. The designated person will be responsible for collecting the monthly contribution and accounting for same to the DPC Standing Committee
- A list of participants will be established and funds received and dispersed will be managed by the DPC Standing Committee. This account will be reconciled monthly and 30% of funds raised during that month will be distributed to prize winners by way of a monthly draw, which will be conducted at one of the bowling clubs
2
- Participants need not be present at the monthly draw to be a prize winner, as out of town bowlers will be participating in this initiative
In terms of the Border Bowls Constitution the DPC are accountable to the Border Bowls Executive and are required to provide an annual report which includes a reconciliation of funds received and dispersed during the year. The DPC Standing Committee will produce a monthly reconciliation of the affairs of this initiative and will be available at the monthly venue, to any participating member who wishes to view same.
Thank you in anticipation, for supporting this fund raising initiative.
Yours sincerely,
Alan Stephenson
